Internationally reocgnised strategist, Sally Castle, joins the liver foundation as new CEO

The Liver Foundation, the nation’s peak body for liver health, is excited to welcome internationally recognised strategist Sally Castle as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Sally will drive the Foundation’s vision to raise awareness about liver disease, focusing on securing funding for the sector, developing patient information materials, GP education, facilitating research and influencing policy to combat liver diseases.

Sally brings over 20 years’ experience in the medical research and the charity sectors, specialising in growing the impact, revenue and reach of health organisations. She has held executive roles in leading not-for-profits including the Centenary Institute, Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and Hunter Medical Research Institute.

The Liver Foundation Chair, Dr Lynne Pezzullo said the appointment of Ms Castle as CEO of the Foundation was an exciting development for the organisation and for liver health in Australia.

“This is an important step in The Liver Foundation’s journey and our mission to raise awareness about liver health and implement solutions to address liver disease,” Dr Pezzullo said.

“We are really pleased to have Sally lead the organisation and I know she will bring the energy and experience to drive our mission forward.”

“It is a true privilege to be CEO of The Liver Foundation and to work with such an experienced and dedicated Board,” Ms Castle said.

“It’s crucial we provide more education and information about liver diseases to patients and the broader community, as well as clinicians such as GPs, and researchers.”

“These are the vital first steps to ensure early intervention in the treatment of liver disease and thus reduce its burgeoning costs, morbidity and mortality.”

“I look forward to working with our expert Board, researchers, healthcare professionals, industry, the community and governments to secure the change needed.”

Liver disease kills 7,000 Australians per year. There are multiple types of liver disease, including liver cancer which is the fastest growing cause of cancer-related deaths in Australia.

Liver disease often goes unrecognised due to a lack of obvious symptoms and indicators, meaning that opportunities for treatments and interventions which could make a difference, are sadly missed.
